Shout it out.

by statia on November 1, 2010

Today is Autism Shout out day.  Or communication shut down day.  Depending on who you talk to, or how you look at it.  Honestly, I get the whole communication shut down in the literal sense, from a sensory perspective.   But in a figurative sense, shutting down is not my style.

I don’t know if you guys realize this, but I?  I am a talker.  I bitch about my kids who never.shut.up.  But really?  The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.  They’re my kids through and through.

And today?  Today is no different from any other day, in my world.  I don’t ever hide the Mini’s diagnosis.  I’m sure my friends are sick of hearing about it, but this is my life.   This is what I’m going through.    And I learned very early on, that no one else is going to speak up for your kid, but you.  You are their advocate.  Whether or not your child is special needs or typically developing.  YOU are the only one who will speak up for them the way they deserve to be spoken for.

Whatever your method is today, just remember to speak out for them when it really counts.
