Mother’s Day

by statia on May 11, 2009

The Mini’s Mother’s Day Card, as made at school:

When I Was Very Small
Sometimes I might upset you
Because I am so small
And always leave my fingerprints
On the furniture and walls.
But every day I grow a bit
And soon I’ll be so tall
That all those little fingerprints
will be so hard to recall.
So here’s a special handprint
Just so you can say,
This is how my fingers looked
when I placed him here today.

And then I fucking bawled like a baby.

I know. When my mom ran an at-home daycare she used to do this for her moms. I had forgotten all about it – until she did it for me when she was babysitting my then 1-year-old last year. The weeping!

Now I’m gonna bawl.

Okay, I don’t bawl. And I’m not even a mom, but damn that is seriously bawl-worthy.

I had forgotten that poem too… I gave a handprint to my mother one year too, it was on the wall for the longest time… I wonder whatever happened to that. Don’t throw that one away ever :)

I have one of those as well. It’s on my fridge and it makes me weepy every time. Damn schools.

My son’s daycare had ths same poem for their mother’s day card with his little hand prints on it. It’s proudly hanging on our refridgerator right now.
