THUD

by statia on September 11, 2008

The Mini is a head banger. Not in the heavy metal kind of way (although, I suppose that could be construed as such.  thank you g’nite).  Before he was mobile, he would rock himself in his crib whenever he was cutting a tooth, or was working through a developmental break through.  And then it would stop for awhile.   Once he had better motor control, he started to bang his head rhythmically on his matress over….and over….and over.  Again, depending on what he was going through, he’d either do it for a couple of minutes until he passed out, or sometimes longer.  Much longer.

I know that this is pretty much developmental, because it’s not a constant thing (although, when I got itchy fingers and opened up a fresh new google search, I got all sorts of scary and unfavorable things back from it, and I really don’t think his head banging is from that particular subject that I searched on) and it’s only confined to his crib, but let me tell you, it drives me batshit insane.  Chinese water torture has NOTHING on this noise and the Mini made sure to bang his head frequently throughout the night over the last few days as I was playing single parent while the Meester was away on business.   And because I couldn’t take anything to sleep, I was screwed when he started banging at 1:30am, 3:30am, 4:30am and 5:30 am.  By the fourth time, I was about to head downstairs to find duct tape.

Thankfully, the meester is back and I can load up on major drugs and pawn the monitor off on his side.  And naturally, the Mini hasn’t banged his head on his mattress once since going to bed.

I am not amused.

He does it because he loves you. :)

My cousin would do the same thing as a baby. It drove her parents crazy too.

Haha! One of the many special ways he will torture you as his mother throughout his life :)

You didn’t break out the duct tape after the first incident… why?

It sounds like the old pizza delivery stunt where the pizzas come every half hour through the night, and then you change it up to drive the person really insane. See, he is just preparing for college…
