I want my babyback ribs.

by statia on November 5, 2006

In the last couple of weeks, I’ve started to feel Fetus kicking up a storm. There’s definitely no mistaking the swift kicks for gas. Some days it’s minimal, other days it’s nothing but kick, punch, tug. Some days I feel as if she/he is rearranging furniture in there. Most of the time, it’s your basic kick, but the favorite past time is jacking my ribs and punching me in the lungs, and let me tell you, there’s no better feeling than that of feeling like someone knocked the wind out of you from the inside. There’s also seems to be a lot of action going on the left side of my rib cage. I think Fetus has installed a swing from my lower rib and is swinging back and forth like Bartles and James on a hot summer day. Or he/she is scratching my bottom rib. Whatever is going on in there, it’s often and almost like nails on a chalkboard and I can’t get the damn kid to stop. There is no amount of poking, shaking, or jamming my own finger in my rib cage that stops the rib creak.

I think this is Fetus’s way of protesting the Meester bringing the leftover Halloween candy into work.

Ornery child. But honestly, it’s got to be pretty boring in there, just hanging out, gestating.
