My boobs, the trend setter

by statia on September 26, 2006

Four years ago, I was single and very on my own. Seeing as how I don’t have much of a relationship with my family, I wasn’t really planning on seeing them for the holidays. My friend’s 30th birthday was coming up and I had already gone out there that prior August for her husband’s birthday bash, which, ended up being a wild weekend to say the least. She really wanted me to fly down again for her birthday weekend, which happened to fall over Thanksgiving, but being single and supporting myself, I just didn’t have it. She didn’t want me to be spending my holiday alone. Spending holidays alone sucks, people. Being the insomniac that she is, I woke up one morning with an email, to a link (this link is so NOT work safe, so click at your own risk) with a campaign to send my boobs back to Florida. None of this was my idea. And it was basically just for fun. If you have a buck to spare, send it along. It sparked a lot of controversy, but in the end, who got the last laugh?

This “campaign” ended up snowballing into something much bigger than just my rack. So much money was raised that after my initial ticket was purchased, the rest went to charity. The Boobie-Thon was born (this link IS work safe). This year marks the fifth annual boobie-thon for charity. Donations of rack shots (rack only, no faces, this is for charity, people, not porn) or money, of which all proceeds go to charity. This year the first $359 (the price of my original ticket) will go to Children’s Hospital Boston, in honor of Sammy, the son of a fellow friend and blogger, who was born earlier this year with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrom (HLHS). All other proceeds will go to Susan G. Komen foundation for breast cancer awareness. This is an awesome and very fun (hello? who doesn’t like to look at boobies? Yeah, I thought so) cause to raise money for breast cancer awareness. To date over 26k was raised through this campaign.

Oh, by the way – they’re real, and they’re spectacular.

Who’da thunk back in ’02 where we’d be now – real life, and ‘Thon-wise! :-)

I sent the link to my DH, who is at work, which I trust has sufficiently distracted him for the rest of the afternoon. Maybe you’ll get some more donations from him and his coworkers? ;-)
