Sporty’s grand day out.

by statia on May 4, 2005

Apparently I have a lot to say today, which is making up for the days that I don’t have anything to say, so you will read it, and you will like it, because I totally blew the load today, and most likely will be brain dead for the next three days. You’ve been warned.

In lieu of walking today, because it was raining, We decided to eat instead. I find it cathartic to take one day during the week to let go a little. We’ve seen this shady looking English pub not far from our house. It’s always been the type of place that we’ve wanted to try, but it required mental preparation on my part, as the Meester can eat just about anywhere. He did live in Norway for a year after all. So, we go in and the bar is like, a dive, which I expected. But it’s like, way more of a dive than I ever even prepared myself for. It’s had to have been around since the late 60′s early 70′s. It’s got wood paneling and velvet and gold wallpaper which is totally peeling off the walls and it smells like your grandma’s basement. There’s all sorts of dates written in chalk on the beams and little bits of history like who was tending bar duing the 89 earthquake. They were playing Fleetwood Mac’s greatest hits in the background. The more I sat there, the cooler it became. We both decided to go with the bangers and mash, because we had no idea what bangers and mash were when we saw it written on the building outside. It was quite tasty. Definitely someplace I’d go to again.

G-man also had his yearly checkup. He didn’t even have any shots and it still cost us 176.00. Part of that bill included an anal sac cleaning. 15.00 very well spent.

Bangers and Mash… yummy! I didn’t know what it was either until we went to Gibraltar on a day trip. We at a cute little pub that was known for their fish n chips. Good times!

Next time, if it’s a genuine English pub, try the steak and kidney pie, and the fish and chips (be sure to put malt vinegar and salt on both fish and fries). Mmm mmm, my mouth is watering.

bangers and mash might be the best meal, ever.

and I second the malt vinegar and salt for fish and chips…it’s a must! We went to come place a few months ago and the teenybopper waitress tried to tell me that the balsamic vinegar that she placed on the table was, indeed, malt vinegar — I later wanted to tell her that the $1 tip was, indeed, a $5 tip.

Indeed.
