There’s no place like home

by statia on January 30, 2005

I’ve decided that Red-eyes suck. Thankfully we took off tomorrow to recouperate. As nice as it was in paradise, by Friday night, we were finally ready to come home. After a series of events leading up to our departure, I’m convinced that there’s some conspiracy set up by the islanders to make us want to leave and not actually live there as we so frequently talk about during our stay during the week. Towards the end, we were getting bitten like crazy, people would randomly call us at 1:30am, and our room got kinda… damp as the week wore on. Don’t ask me how. The topper was the last night we were all nice and cozy in our dampish bed, sleeping soundly, when some dillhole decided it was a good time to test out the fire alarm, at 1:30am (you see a pattern here?) forcing us all to jolt out of bed and start heading down the stairs, only to get halfway down and have them tell us “nevermind”. Once we got back into bed, the alarm went off two more times. It was at this point that the Meester needed to peel me off the ceiling and give me a valium. Because this falls under the whole “I will fucking kill you if you wake me up” territory. I swear to god that siren and recorded voice will haunt me for the rest of my life. Who knew that some little Asian lady’s recorded voice could sound that eerie? Even when she was speaking in a different language (though, secretly I think she was saying something about a happy ending in those other languages, but that’s just me). Because of our inconveniences, I made it in our best interest to get some of our incidentals taken care of.

Don’t get me wrong though, I’m really not complaining about our week. It was fabulous. We did just enough to say we did some stuff, and the rest of the week was about parking our asses on the beach and getting tan. Vanity will kick in later and I’ll be ordering up a vat of anti wrinkle cream, but for now we look completely stellar with our tans. Being on the water every day made me realize just how much I love warm weather and the beach, and being close to all of it. It sucks to have to come back to chilly weather and not be able to show off my tan toes.

Yes, the week was fabulous, filled with a lot of relaxation, whale watching, dolphin spotting, snorkeling, my first ever scuba dive (which will definitely become a new favorite hobby of mine), seeing an original Keith Haring, which the Meester said we couldn’t buy. ($68,000, chump change pshaw) And of course, the ultimate highlight was getting married.

Right now, I’m a little jet lagged. I have more pictures to wade through than the time I have to do it, for now, I leave you with this. Sorry for the crappy picture, but it was the end of the night, and we were gorged from dinner, and windblown from spending quite a few hours on the beach from the ceremony to the pictures. We have the professionals that we need to get scanned, but for now, it’s time to chill out.

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes and congratulations.

You know it was a vacation that you enjoyed the shit out of when you’re actually ready to come home. So, overall, would you rate Hawaii where as a vacation spot, on a scale of 1 (shitty) to 10 (fantabulous)?
