Spam in a can

by statia on August 26, 2004

I’ve been getting rogue spam comments on my old domain. It’s just enough to make a vein bust in my head. Mostly comments for poker and shit. I suck at poker and I’d like to kick this spammer right in the taint. With a steel tipped shoe.

I had an idea (not like it probably hasn’t been done, but you know, I’m not technical so to me, this was like rocket science) to just add a string of words to prevent these fuckers from commenting regarding online games. The meester added it, and it worked. If you’re getting annoyed like me, you can add this to your blacklist (if you haven’t already):

(blackjack)[_.\-]?poker([\w\-_.]+)?\.[a-z]{2 ,} and/or

(blackjack|poker|craps)[\w\-_.]*\.[a-z]{2,}

It’s getting the job done. And I left comment spammers a nice little message when they try to comment.

not that i changed my design because of those bastards, but with the new design, i haven’t gotten any comments from them at all…it’s seemingly unworth it for them to to do so with my type of layout…hee!

thanks — i added these two to my list. i find a good way for us to protect ourselves against comment spam is to regularly download and add each others lists to our own blacklist.txt file. feel free to copy mine — http://www.petebeck.com/blacklist.txt — it has well over 2,000 strings and URL’s in it now.
