Prizoner of Azkaban

We went to see Harry Potter this afternoon. I was really excited to see this movie mainly because out of the five of them so far, this one has continued to be my favorite. So what did I think?

First off, let me say that it was good. I liked it, but I’m really anal about them deviating from the book. When they had originally said that they were going to make Sorcerer’s Stone into a book, I was one of those people that was all up in arms because I knew it’d be really hard to make the book into a movie. The books rely heavily on imagination, and everyone pictures the whole magical world differently. I also figured they’d change things and leave stuff out. Which, in the essence of time, they have to do, I understand that. To JK’s credit, she made sure that Sorcerer’s Stone was really closely mirrored to the book, and so was Chamber of Secrets. And yes, I’m so anal that I will reread the books right before the movie, just so I can compare every last detail. Prisoner of Azkaban was a lot more out of order, and because the book was so long, they ended up leaving stuff out and changing some stuff around, which left me a little annoyed. Other than that, the special effects have been getting better and better with every movie. I imagine that it was hard to concentrate on a lot of the little details that went on in this book, and I know, that if they continue to make the rest of the series into movies, they’ll keep doing the same thing. After all, the movie was already two and a half hours long. But I hate that they did things out of order. At least we kept ourselves entertained with the whole Ron and Hermione tension by humming 70′s porn music everytime they had a “moment”. I also don’t like the new Dumbledore.

I liked the movie. I thought it was good, but keep to the order of the books. I’d say 4 out of 5 stars.
