Pencil envy

by statia on December 11, 2003

I don’t really consider myself a prolific writer. I write how I speak, for the most part. Sometimes, I have great words in my head, just swirling around, but not in any order. I wish I had a pensieve for my words. I don’t think I’m a horrible writer, but I’m coherent, and usually, can put thoughts together. I’ve always been envious of people who can write wittily, put it together and make it work. Like a stunning outfit. Simple, yet with the right accessories, just works. There are some people who I would love to be able to write like:

All with a different style, each has their own way of making that outfit work. Something tells me Mike looks stunning carrying a nice wristlet.

Awww! Now I’m blushing! Thank you mucho! I needed to hear that this week.

I hesitate to thank you for the kind words until I know what a wristlet is.

Your analogy of writing being compared to putting together an outfit is RIGHT ON! Very clever, you.

I think you sell yourself short, personally. Capturing a speech pattern, even your own, isn’t an easy thing to do if you don’t have the talent for it. Most trip over themselves trying to put a simple sentence together.
